2026 Speaker Biographies

Allanah Barker is a consultant radiologist and lead for thoracic imaging at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. She completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic radiology at R Dr. oyal Papworth Hospital and was appointed as a consultant radiologist with a sub-specialty interest in cardiothoracic radiology in 2019.  

She has a special interest in thoracic imaging and intervention, particularly in oncology, and is trained in Endobronchial Ultrasound and Endoscopic Ultrasound for full staging of lung cancer. Dr. Barker is responsible radiologist for lung cancer screening in Cambridge and is an advisory editor for Clinical Radiology. 

Dr Anna Sharman is a Consultant Radiologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. 

Her specialist interest is thoracic radiology, particularly early detection of lung cancer. Anna has co-developed the nationally recognised, award winning, RAPID programme at Wythenshawe hospital, described as an exemplar service for the delivery of the National Optimum Lung Cancer Pathway (NOLCP). She has set up a highly successful tertiary lung biopsy service taking referrals from across the region.  

Dr Sharman is the Responsible Radiologist for the Greater Manchester Lung Health Check/Lung Cancer Screening programme following the success of the pilot in 2016 and is now the NHS England co-lead for Lung Cancer Screening.  

She is the clinical lead for the Annalise CXR AI clinical decision support tool for MFT which went live across the whole trust in October 2024, part of the wider Greater Manchester initiative. MFT was awarded £500k, part of the £3.2M awarded to GM from the NHSE Artificial Intelligence Diagnostic Fund.

James Barr is a consultant in thoracic surgery and lung transplantation at Wythenshawe hospital. I completed my basic and specialist cardiothoracic surgical training in the London deanery. Following completion of UK surgical training I undertook additional specialist training in lung transplantation and extra-corporeal life support at Toronto General Hospital in Canada.

My clinical interests include robotic surgery, airway surgery and lung transplantation. I am trust specialty training lead in thoracic surgery

Becca Duerden has been a specialist Thoracic radiologist for over 18 years, with interests including thoracic oncology and thoracic Interventional radiology, interstitial lung disease, asthma, emphysema and pulmonary hypertension.

Currently working at Stockport, she is a member of the BTOG Specialist Interest Group for Thymic Malignancies, as well as Greater Manchester Cancer co-lead for the Single Queue Diagnostics Project and Lead for the CT lung biopsy Single Queue Project.

She was radiology lead for services including asthma, emphysema and pulmonary hypertension at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester between 2014 and 2022, and previously worked at Bristol Royal Infirmary from 2009 to 2014, covering tertiary level thoracic imaging and intervention, and providing cardiac imaging including GUCH MDT radiology lead for quaternary services to the South West.

RACHEL BENAMORE, Consultant Thoracic Radiologist Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Rachel qualified in medicine from Cambridge University. She undertook her radiology training in Leicester and spent a year as a fellow in thoracic radiology in Toronto, Canada. She has been a consultant thoracic radiologist at Oxford University Hospitals since 2006 and is currently Thoracic Radiology Lead. She is an author of over 30 peer-reviewed papers and 2 book chapters and regularly lectures nationally.

Dr Rosie Cadwallader is a Consultant Vascular Interventional Radiologist at Manchester Foundation Trust, having worked and trained in South Africa, Zambia and the UK. Alongside her routine vascular work she has a specialist interest in pulmonary intervention and education currently serving as the Interventional Radiology TPD for the North West.

Dr Nazia Chaudhuri is a respiratory physician with a specialist interest in interstitial lung disease (ILD). She is senior clinical lecturer at Ulster University and is lead of the Northern Ireland ILD network. She is chair of the British Thoracic Society (BTS) ILD registry working group and was chair of the BTS interstitial and rare lung disease specialist advisory group from Nov 2020 to 2023. She is also a member of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) ILD long range planning committee, an ERS ILD mentor and the secretary of the ERS idiopathic interstitial pneumonia ILD assembly. She is the secretary of the Irish Thoracic Society and member of the ILD working group. She is a trustee of the patient charity Pulmonary Fibrosis Northern Ireland (PFNI) and the NI rare disease partnership.  

She graduated from the University of Leeds with an honours degree in medicine and a BSc honours in genetics. She performed a PhD and published her work looking at the cellular interactions and signalling in response to infection and air pollution.  

She is the principal investigator on a number of clinical research trials (>20 over 5 years) in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and was the UK Chief Investigator of a major clinical trial on progressive ILDs and a trial in IPF. She is collaborator on a number of grants exceeding £5 million. She is also co-applicant for a British Lung foundation grant for a study in Sarcoidosis. 

Dr Chaudhuri has published her experience in prescribing antifibrotics and delivering MDT care and has presented over 40 abstracts pertaining to IPF, antifibrotics and the importance of a multi-disciplinary team approach at all major respiratory conferences. She is collaborator on a number of grants and has co-authored over 50 peer reviewed articles.

Chris Kosmidis is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Infectious Diseases at the University of Manchester and an Honorary Consultant at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He is Clinical Lead of the National Aspergillosis Centre, where he specialises in the diagnosis and management of chronic and allergic aspergillosis. His research focuses on new anti fungal agents, pathogenesis of fungal infection, and improving outcomes in patients with complex respiratory infection.

Anthoney Edey is a Consultant Radiologist at North Bristol NHS Trust since 2010, specialising in thoracic radiology with expertise in pleural disease, interstitial lung disease, and early detection of lung cancer.  He completed a National Treasure Fellowship in Thoracic Imaging at Royal Brompton Hospital and currently serves as Responsible Radiologist for the SWAG Lung Cancer Screening Programme.  He is Travelling Professor for British Society of Thoracic Imaging / Royal College of Radiologists and has served both as Honorary Secretary and Lead for Standards at the British Society of Thoracic Imaging.  Regular national and international lecturer on thoracic radiology, contributing to British Thoracic Society guidelines on malignant pleural mesothelioma and pleural disease. 

Professor Fergus Gleeson is a Consultant Radiologist and Professor of Radiology in Oxford. He is the Head of Academic Radiology, the Director of the Oxford Radiology Research Unit at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the past President of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging and the British Society of Thoracic Imaging. His research interests are in Artificial Intelligence applied to thoracic imaging, and Hyperpolarized Xenon MRI. His H-index is 95 with over 41,000 citations and has brought in over £35 million in grant income in the last 10 years. 

Dr Haval Balata is a Consultant Respiratory Physician based at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Manchester. 

Dr Balata’s clinical and research interests include the risk reduction, screening and early detection of lung cancer and interventional bronchoscopy. Dr Balata enjoys extensive involvement in the pioneering ‘Manchester Lung Health Check’ service for targeted lung cancer screening, having overseen the initial pilot study as part of his PhD thesis in 2016. He is now the Responsible Clinician for one of the UK’s largest lung cancer screening programmes. His other roles include being the clinical lead for the Interventional Bronchoscopy Unit at Wythenshawe Hospital which includes regional Navigation & Robotic Bronchoscopy services. 

Dr Jennifer Hoyle, Manchester MD, M dip Occ Med,FRCP. is a Respiratory Consultant based in Manchester Foundation NHS Trust since 2003. From July 2018 she joined the Respiratory Strategic Clinical Network in Greater Manchester as the Clinical Lead. 

Dr Hoyle has a specialist interest in work and its effects on lung disease; she is an Honorary Lecturer in Occupational and Environmental Lung Disease at Manchester University and is a member of the Surveillance of Work-related Occupational Respiratory Disease committee (SWORD) at Manchester University.   

In addition, Dr Hoyle is a member of the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council and she has lectured both nationally and internationally about occupational respiratory diseases with multiple publications in the field. 

Dr Hannah Lambie is a Consultant Radiologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, UK specialising in Gastro-Intestinal radiology. Her areas of interest include gastro-oesophageal imaging, colorectal imaging, imaging in Inflammatory bowel disease and non-vascular intervention. She is passionate about education and has been the Training Programme Director for Radiology in West Yorkshire for the last 5 years where she has been voted trainer of the year twice in the last 3 years. She is the Education Officer for BSGAR (British Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology) and is a regular national and international speaker. 

Rachel Magennis is a consultant radiologist and medical examiner at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester.  As REALM lead, both locally and nationally, Rachel is keen to promote a no blame culture that focusses on the learning. She teaches human factors to healthcare professionals,  highlighting the contribution of our environment and interactions on our performance.  As Schwartz facilitator and healthcare coach, she recognises the importance of the wellbeing of our workforce in delivering high quality care and promoting patient safety.

Arjun Nair is a Consultant Radiologist with a sub-specialty interest in cardiothoracic imaging at University College London Hospital and an Honorary Associate Professor at University College London. Arjun’s research interests include implementation, standardisation and quality assurance of lung cancer screening, integrating imaging biomarkers of cardiopulmonary health, and imaging of diffuse lung disease. He is the author/co-author of several peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters on cardiothoracic imaging. Arjun is currently the joint Royal College of Radiologists/ British Society of Thoracic Imaging Travelling Professor.

Arjun has been actively involved in several lung screening trials, beginning with the UK Lung Screening Pilot trial in 2011 and continuing through the SUMMIT Lung cancer screening study over the last 6 years. Arjun was the Joint Clinical Lead for the National Lung Cancer Screening programme from 2019-2026, and currently co-chairs the British Thoracic Society Pulmonary Nodule Guideline Development Group. He is currently a member of several committees, including the Lung Cancer Screening workshop and Diploma subsections of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging Training and Educational Committee.

Emma Reid has been a Consultant Radiologist at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport since 2011. She has a keen interest in teaching, supervision and mentorship and completed a PGCert in workplace based postgraduate medical education at Edge Hill University. She is an educational supervisor and faculty member on the Royal College of Radiologists’ introduction to supervision course. 

Emma has held educational leadership roles within the North West School of Radiology (NWSOR) as Less Than Full Time (LTFT) Advisor and TPD for trainer development. She served as President of the Manchester Medical Society Imaging Division in 2022-23. 

Clinically, Emma has a specialist interest in ILD and established the local ILD MDT at Stockport in 2022. She also enjoys the breadth and variety of practice that working in a DGH provides. 

Dr Rhidian Bramley is a Consultant Radiologist at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Clinical Lead for Diagnostics, Digital and Innovation at the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance. He also holds roles as Clinical AI Lead and Digital Clinical Lead for the Greater Manchester Imaging Network.

Rhidian leads regional programmes focused on the safe and effective deployment of artificial intelligence in imaging, with a particular emphasis on improving early cancer diagnosis and optimising diagnostic pathways. He is the clinical lead for the AI Radiology PriOriTisation (AIRPORT) study, a large-scale, multi-site programme evaluating the impact of AI on chest X-ray reporting, lung cancer detection, and pathway efficiency across Greater Manchester.

His work focuses on translating AI from research into real-world clinical practice, including pathway redesign, safety evaluation, and the development of standards for AI deployment within the NHS.

Dr Seamus Grundy is a Consultant Respiratory Physician with sub-specialty interest in Lung Cancer and Pleural Disease. He is Lead Lung Cancer Clinician at Salford Royal Hospital and also Clinical Lead for the Northern Care Alliance Lung Cancer Screening Diagnostic Service part of the Greater Manchester Lung Cancer Screening Service. He has worked in Targeted Lung Health Checks since their inception having been co-lead for the Liverpool Healthy Lung Project. During his clinical training he was awarded a Wellcome Trust Clinical Fellowship for his PhD studying the adaptive immune system in the lung of cigarette smokers.

Annemiek Snoeckx, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor at the University of Antwerp and  Chair of the Radiology Department at Antwerp University Hospital, Belgium. Her clinical  and research expertise focus on thoracic oncology imaging and lung cancer screening. Professor Snoeckx is actively involved in several professional societies, including the European Society of Radiology, European Society of Thoracic Imaging, European School  of Radiology and European Respiratory Society. She is co-founder of the Flemish  Taskforce Lung Cancer Screening and principal investigator of the Flemish lung cancer  screening implementation study ZORALCS.

Passionate about education in thoracic oncology, she has lectured widely at national and international meetings and courses. She authored or co-authored over 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
